About

Hi I’m Abigail and welcome to One Little Backpacker.

One Little Backpacker is a collection of my travel experiences, tips on how to stretch your budget and my suggested travel itineraries. I have currently travelled to 35 countries and have many ‘once in a lifetime’ adventures still on my list.

Let me explain a little further where my love of travel began and how I ended up travelling the world as a solo 28-year-old female traveller.

At the age of 15 I was in a horrendous car accident and nearly lost my life. After multiple operations and time spent in a wheel chair I am now recovered fully, however since the accident I always strive to achieve everything I can in life. As you can imagine, this was a very hard time for me and I missed out when most of my friends were living a relatively carefree existence. I have suffered for many years with anxiety and depression since then, however the best thing I did to overcome many of my fears was to travel!

Following the car accident, I studied at home in order to achieve my GCSEs and then went to college where I studied A Levels, where I was still unable to walk without crutches. I finally went to Bournemouth University, graduated with a 2:1 (hons) bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and an award for ‘best final year dissertation’ from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.

Once I had completed my degree I decided to travel for up to 6 months. However, once the 6 months was over I decided I wasn’t quite ready to return home. The 6 month trip I had planned, eventually turned into a 2 year round the world adventure.

After researching various destinations, I decided to plan my trip by festivals around the world. I began in South America, where I witnessed the spectacular Rio Carnival. Next I travelled to India, where I took part in the paint throwing of Holi Festival. Carrying on to South East Asia, I visited Northern Thailand to celebrate Songkran Festival (a 5-day water fight). This was where my trip was supposed to come to an end…

I carried on…Singapore, Philippines, Vietnam, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia…the list goes on.

Throughout my travels I have seen and done some amazing things, moving through different cultures and ways of life. The world is an spectacular place, with incredible people to meet along the way.

I hope you enjoy my blog and find the information useful for your great adventure. If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch.
