Music acts as the soundtrack to any trip. A weekend away, a two week holiday or an around the world adventure. For me similarly to reading, music helps to keep my mind occupied on long journeys and allows me to reflect on the each destination.
I seem to have a different soundtrack to each and every time I have packed up my bag and set off on a new adventure. I can still remember when I left Salta, Argentina in South America. I had just celebrated my birthday with some amazing people and been spoiled by everyone who was there with well wishes. I was staying at Loki Hostel and where they had baked me a cake and on my birthday had cooked the meal of my choice for the entire hostel! Obviously it was a roast dinner (it’s always nice to have home comforts on the road). I was waving a tearful goodbye listening to Emily Sande (I’m not sure why I was so tearful. Of course it was great to meet everyone and people were nice to me, but I had only known some of them a day or two…hmmm. Definitely a side affect of backpacking haha).
Anyway it is moments like this that pop into my mind every time I hear Emily Sande.
For many of you, I’m sure you feel the same and listening to music can take you back to a single moment in time when you were exploring the world.
Whether it’s by train, plane or bus, the artists that we listen to and the songs they create have an impact on our journey. Here’s a few of my favourite songs, that take me back to special moments and the people who I shared them with along the way.
